A part of the community

The Port of St. John’s is proud to play an active role in the community in which we live and work. Here are just a few highlights of our involvement.

Special Events
Throughout the year the port plays host to a full calendar of events: submarine and ship tours, award ceremonies, the Port Authority Yacht Race and the Sound Symposium Harbour Symphony are just a few. 2005 saw the 1st Annual Jazz Festival at our Harbourside Park! Proud Canadians from all over can now visit the site where Terry Fox began his remarkable journey… his family unveiled a monument to his dream here in 2005. And of course, locals and visitors alike can join in the celebration as thousands gather to ring in the first New Year on the continent!

Investing in Youth
Every year the St. John’s Port Authority awards scholarships to deserving students from across Newfoundland and Labrador who are pursuing studies at post-secondary institutions. The Port is also a proud sponsor of the Computers for Schools program, which enables students to obtain the technology skills required to compete in our knowledge-based economy.

Harbour Lights Fundraiser
The St. John’s Port Authority launched the Harbour Lights Christmas fundraiser to benefit local charities. The Port places a Christmas tree in the courtyard of the Pier 7 complex and the lights to decorate it are purchased by donors for a fee. Corporate and private donors help to make this campaign a major success each year.
