St. John’s Port Authority Installs New Electrical
Distribution System
August 31, 2006
(St. John’s, NL) The St. John's Port Authority (SJPA) is
pleased to announce completion of its new $120,000.00 electrical
distribution system at Piers 6 and 7 in the Port of St. John’s.
“Installation of an accessible shore-based power system is a
prime example of the SJPA’s ongoing commitment to improve port
facilities for the benefit of port users,” said Sean Hanrahan,
President & CEO of the SJPA. “Small commercial users such as
fishing vessels, tour boat operators, and pleasure craft can now
access an environmentally-preferred power source, as opposed to
utilizing on-board generators while in port”.
The new system is capable of providing up to 28 users with
simultaneous access to either 125volt/30amp or 240 volt/50 amp
electrical power. The service will complement the existing
seasonal fresh water supply toward the goal of “full amenities”
at Piers 6 and 7.
The St. John’s Port Authority is a financially
self-sufficient Federal agency deriving all revenues solely from
operations, and reinvesting all earnings into Port
infrastructure and operations. As a result of the Authority’s
effective stewardship of the Port’s infrastructure, and the
invaluable endeavours of the Port community, the Port of St.
John’s has an estimated economic impact on the province of
$278-million per annum, with an associated 3,157 direct and
indirect jobs.
